At first glance, the seamless bright-red oval object may look like an earbud case, makeup compact, or small storage container. In reality, it is a vintage rubber squeeze coin purse, sometimes known as a Quikey or Oval Squeeze Purse. Its simple design uses flexible material rather than zippers, snaps, buttons, or Velcro.
The purse opens through a narrow slit running along its center. By squeezing both ends, the flexible sides bow outward and widen the opening, allowing coins or other small items to be accessed easily. Once released, the material returns to its original shape and the slit closes again, creating a simple self-sealing design.
Squeeze coin purses became especially popular from the 1950s through the 1980s, when loose change was commonly needed for public phones, buses, parking meters, vending machines, and laundromats. Businesses such as banks, gas stations, and insurance companies also used them as inexpensive promotional giveaways featuring logos and contact information. Today, vintage versions are valued for their nostalgic appeal and can still be useful for storing coins, tokens, guitar picks, earbuds, keys, or other small everyday items.
