Small white bumps on the lips or intimate areas are often harmless and may simply be natural skin variations or mild irritation. One common cause is Fordyce spots, which are visible oil glands that can naturally occur on the lips or genital skin. They are not contagious or an infection and generally do not require treatment.
Other possible causes include clogged oil glands, friction, shaving, sweating, tight clothing, or reactions to cosmetics and hygiene products. Mild bacterial or fungal irritation can also sometimes produce small white or irritated bumps, particularly when the skin has been irritated or damaged.
It is best to avoid squeezing or scratching the bumps, as this can increase irritation, introduce infection, or cause scarring. Many cases resolve without treatment, but bumps that become painful, spread, grow, or remain for several weeks should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to determine the cause.
