### A Simple Boundary That Changed Everything

Eleanor had lived in her quiet suburban home for more than thirty years, carefully managing her expenses. So when her electricity bill suddenly doubled, she knew something was wrong. One evening, she noticed her neighbor Monica’s electric car parked near her garage with a charging cable connected to Eleanor’s outlet.

When Eleanor confronted her, Monica casually admitted that she had been using the electricity and suggested it was only temporary. This time, however, Eleanor decided not to stay silent. She asked Monica to unplug the car and realized that years of avoiding conflict had allowed small boundary issues to continue.

The next day, Eleanor took steps to make her property boundaries clearer. She retrieved a garden decoration that had ended up in Monica’s yard and placed a motion-activated sprinkler near the garage along with a sign asking people not to use the property. When Monica returned with the charging cable, the sprinkler activated, drawing attention to the situation.

Other neighbors soon shared similar experiences involving items that had been borrowed and never returned, making it clear that the disagreement was about more than electricity. Monica eventually apologized and stopped using Eleanor’s outlet, and relations gradually improved. Eleanor came away with a simple lesson: being kind does not mean remaining silent, and clear boundaries can help protect both personal space and peace of mind.
