Mindy is struggling with exhaustion after giving birth to her daughter, Emma, while her husband, Max, returns to work and leaves most of the childcare responsibilities to her. When an unexpected $2,400 hospital bill arrives, Max insists that Mindy handle it herself because the bill is in her name. Feeling increasingly overwhelmed, she uses her savings to arrange monthly payments. Worried about her daughter’s well-being, Mindy’s 73-year-old mother, Ursula, offers to stay with the family for several weeks to help care for the baby.

Ursula’s arrival brings much-needed relief as she watches Emma so Mindy can rest, prepares meals, does laundry, shops for groceries, and takes the baby for walks. However, Max begins complaining about household expenses and makes sarcastic comments about Ursula’s stay. After a month, when Ursula prepares to leave, Max presents her with an invoice demanding payment for rent and utilities. Shocked by his behavior, Mindy refuses to let her mother pay and confronts Max with the medical bill he had left her to manage. She also highlights the value of Ursula’s childcare and household assistance, making it clear that her mother came to support the family, not to be treated like a paying guest.

The confrontation forces Mindy and Max to address their financial worries and unequal parenting responsibilities. They agree to share evening childcare, arrange help on weekends, and review their household budget together. Max eventually apologizes to Ursula, acknowledging that he handled the situation poorly, and begins contributing $100 a month toward the hospital bill while taking greater responsibility for Emma. Although their marriage still needs work, Mindy learns to speak openly about her needs rather than hiding her exhaustion. When Emma becomes fussy one evening, Max reassures his wife, saying, “I’ve got her, Mindy,” showing that he is finally beginning to understand what it means to share the responsibilities of family life.
