Eventually, I found Sylvia, and she revealed a truth that changed everything I had believed for decades. She had been pregnant when I left for a new job, but my mother pressured her to end our relationship, even threatening her family and convincing her that she would damage my future. Sylvia gave birth to a baby girl and tried to contact me, but my mother kept us apart, and the child was eventually placed for adoption.

After Doreen died, I found letters and adoption records among my mother’s belongings. The baby’s birth date matched Taryn’s, revealing that the daughter Doreen and I had raised for 37 years was actually my biological child with Sylvia. When I told Taryn, she was overwhelmed and asked whether Doreen had truly loved her. I assured her that, despite the mistakes she had made, I had witnessed Doreen love Taryn throughout her entire life.

Eventually, Taryn met Sylvia, creating an emotional reunion after decades apart. Sylvia was overwhelmed to finally meet the daughter she had lost, while Taryn smiled through her tears and noticed the resemblance in her green eyes. I still cherish the years I shared with Doreen, but the truth brought painful questions about forgiveness. Now, when Taryn sends Sylvia photos of the grandchildren she never knew, I understand Doreen’s final request for forgiveness in a way I never could before.
