During warmer months, a small bowl of vinegar near a window can be a simple household solution for common problems such as fruit flies and unpleasant odors. Apple cider vinegar is often used to attract fruit flies, while white vinegar may be used when the goal is to help with certain household smells.

To make a basic fruit-fly trap, pour a small amount of apple cider vinegar into a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap, making a few tiny holes. The scent can attract flies, while keeping the surrounding area clean, storing fruit properly, removing food waste, and maintaining window screens can help prevent them from returning.

Vinegar can be useful, but it is not a replacement for proper cleaning or pest prevention. Never mix vinegar with bleach or other cleaning chemicals, and keep bowls away from children and pets. Overall, this inexpensive trick can be a convenient option for dealing with fruit flies or certain odors during the warmer months.
